In the woods, a Caterpillar told Alice that eating one side of his mushroom would make her taller and the other shorter. He asked who she was, which Alice found hard to answer after so many changes.
One bite stretched Alice’s neck so high that a Pigeon thought she was a serpent. Alice explained that she was a girl, not a snake hunting eggs.

Alice entered a house where a Duchess held a baby while a Cook filled the room with pepper. The baby cried, the Cook tossed dishes, and a Cheshire Cat grinned beside the hearth.
Outside, the baby turned into a pig and trotted off, while the Cheshire Cat appeared in a tree. Alice let the pig go rather than pretend it was still a baby.

Alice chose the path to the March Hare’s house after the Cheshire Cat vanished, leaving only his grin. She used the mushroom to make herself large enough for the visit.
The March Hare, the Hatter and a sleepy Dormouse sat together at the table. They called out that there was no room, though Alice could see empty chairs.
