The Mock Turtle and Gryphon sang and danced the Lobster Quadrille while Alice watched by the sea. They described how sea creatures traded places in the dance.
The Gryphon led Alice back to the Queen’s court to see who was on trial. The Mock Turtle stayed behind on the shore.
Page 2
The Knave of Hearts stood accused of stealing tarts that the Queen had baked. The King sat as judge, and the White Rabbit read the charge aloud.
A jury of small animals wrote down almost everything anyone said. The Hatter was called as the first witness and brought his tea cup.
Page 3
After the Hatter gave confusing evidence, the Duchess’s Cook was called and claimed the stolen tarts were made of pepper. She had brought pepper into the house Alice visited earlier.
Alice began growing taller as she sat among the crowd. She had not eaten mushroom, but the strange change still came.
