Father Anansi gives advice to neighbors while his son Kweku Tsin listens

Long ago in Ghana, Father Anansi gave people advice. He believed he held all wisdom: the knowledge to solve every problem. He was known throughout his village for his answers.

Anansi had a son called Kweku Tsin, who watched and listened to his father. The boy saw people arrive with questions and leave with answers.

Anansi turns away from the villagers after becoming offended

One day some villagers upset Anansi, and he became angry with them. He kept thinking about how offended he felt.

“I will hide all my wisdom where nobody can reach it,” Anansi decided. He wanted to punish the people who had offended him.

Anansi seals the wisdom inside a large clay pot with a rope sling

Anansi gathered up the wisdom he had shared and put it in a large clay pot. He believed he had collected every last bit of it.

He sealed the pot and tied a rope to it so he could carry it away. He meant to hide it where no one else could find it.
