Beneath a hillside near the stone Miryek, Father Mole and Mother Mole raised their daughter. When she was grown, her proud father decided she should marry the greatest possible bridegroom.
He asked the neighbouring moles for advice. They thought nothing could be greater than the wide blue Sky, so he set out to speak to it.
Page 2
Father Mole offered his daughter as a bride to the broad blue Sky. But the Sky told him that its colors depended on the Sun’s light.
“If you seek the greatest,” said the Sky, “speak to the Sun.” Father Mole turned toward the bright light.
Page 3
Father Mole asked the golden Sun to marry his daughter. The Sun was surprised by his praise, for a Cloud could hide its rays for days.
It told Father Mole that the Cloud was stronger. He went to find it.
