Page 1
A tiger was trapped in a cage when a Brahman, a religious man, came walking past. The tiger could not squeeze through the bars.
“Please let me out,” begged the tiger, but the man feared the tiger would eat him. The Brahman stopped at a safe distance.

The tiger promised to be grateful and never hurt the Brahman, so the man opened the cage. The tiger sighed and pleaded until the kindly man felt sorry for him.
But the hungry tiger broke his promise and said he would eat the man. Freedom had not made him grateful.

Page 3
The Brahman asked whether it was fair for the tiger to eat someone who had freed him. He pleaded for a chance to prove it was wrong.
The tiger let him ask three judges and promised to accept what they decided. The man hoped they would speak up for him.
