Rat helps Mole return to his old home and share supper with field mice

On a winter walk with Rat, Mole smelled his old underground home and longed to see it again. Rat noticed his sadness and turned back with him.

After winter, Badger, Rat and Mole tried to stop Toad crashing motorcars, but he stole another car and was sent to prison. They wanted to keep their friend safe and help him change his ways.

Toad sat in prison for taking a motorcar and missed his home while Rat, Mole and Badger worried about him. He had not kept his promise to stop driving.

While Toad was away, Rat and Mole found Otter’s missing son Portly safe on a river island and brought him home. Otter had waited anxiously while they searched the banks through the night.

The jailer’s daughter helps Toad disguise himself and escape

The jailer’s daughter dressed Toad as a washerwoman so he could slip out of prison. Toad thanked her and hurried to the railway station.

On the journey Toad quarreled with a barge-woman who discovered he could not wash clothes. He fell into the water and reached shore wet and cross.
